Четвертый выпуск от Hermes Press уже не за горами. Обещают в середине лета этого года. В сборник войдут оригинальные выпуски Pogo Possum с 7 по 11 (я не сильно ошибся в своих предсказаниях). Обложка позаимствована из 10 оригинального выпуска 1952 года. Цена по предзаказу целых 60$, что, на мой взгляд, сильно много для такой книжницы. У Fantagraphics книжки больше, толще и переплет тканевой, а цена ниже в два раза. Не понимаю.

Третий выпуск вышел в продажу совсем недавно: 15 октября 2015 года — меньше трех недель прошло. В этом томе, как и предполагалось, продолжение публикации «Pogo Possum», на этот раз выпуски с 3 по 6. В следующем, надо думать, будут выпуски с 7 по 10… Занятно, что во втором и в третьем томе переиздания, они использовали в качестве обложек оригинальные обложки «Pogo Possum» от второго и третьего выпусков за 1949 и 1950 год, соответственно.

Второй том вышел 20 ноября 2014 года, чуть меньше года назад. Он отлично дополняет первый (кто бы сомневался?). Но я очень рад, что такие редкости восстают из небытия. В этом выпуске содержатся репринты двух выпусков из серии Four Color Comics под номерами: 105 и 148, посвященных Пого. Всего в этой серии был, по моим данным, 1321 выпуск (выходило это все с 1942 по 1962 год) , но Пого посвящены только два выпуска из этой кучи. Номер 105 вышел в 1946, а номер 148 в 1947 году, соответственно. Кроме обложек сейчас в сети найти что-то сложно. В довесок к этим редкостям, в номер попали и другие редкости, это начало журнала «Pogo Possum» от Dell Publishing. Первые четыре из шестнадцати выпусков, я думаю, они растянут их еще на три тома — увидим.

Если совсем вкратце, то это репринт тех самых Animal Comics издательства Dell Comics (подразделение Dell Publishing), которые выходили аж с 1942 года. Картинка на обложке позаимствована с оригинального издания «Animal Comics», выпуск номер 17 за 1945 год. Во многом это очень примечательные комиксы, вот выдержка из Википедии:

Kelly created the characters of Pogo the possum and Albert the alligator in 1941 for issue #1 of Dell’s Animal Comics, in the story «Albert Takes the Cake.» Both were comic foils for a young black character named Bumbazine (a corruption of bombazine, a fabric that was usually dyed black and used largely for mourning wear), who lived in the swamp. Bumbazine was retired early, since Kelly found it hard to write for a human child. He eventually phased humans out of the comics entirely, preferring to use the animal characters for their comic potential. Kelly said he used animals — «nature’s screechers,» as he called them — «largely because you can do more with animals. They don’t hurt as easily, and it’s possible to make them more believable in an exaggerated pose.» Pogo, formerly a «spear carrier» according to Kelly, quickly took center stage, assuming the straight man role that Bumbazine had occupied.
